The A-Star is now Maruti's global small cars. With a projected 50,000 cars for the domestic market for the first year, another 50,000 for Europe and some more for Nissan, there's a lot riding for Maruti and Suzuki on this small one. It is after all Suzuki's Alto replacement and the first signs suggest this one is a modern small car. The overall design is in line with modern Suzukis like the Swift and SX4, especially around the rear where therelationship is visible. Its compact footprint and good packaging has meant that there's no lack of space, but it still isn't in the league of the i10. Maruti have developed a new K-series engine for the small car with a three-cylinder layout, opposed to the four that its competion has.
