The first Volkswagen to officially enter the country is an accomplished model. It is an incredibly thoughtful car, with a host of features and touches that make it extremely liveable for years on end. There are so many things packed in it that you wonder how you managed to live without them for so long. On the outside, however, it does not break any new ground in styling; suffice to say that it is Euro conservative.

The Passat comes with only one engine option, a torquey 140 bhp 2.0-litre inline-four that's paired to a DSG box. The drivetrain combination is brilliant, and is comfortable cruising, commuting or maybe even while doing some hot laps. The Passat also handles as well as a rear wheel drive sedan - which it certainly is not - while ride can be termed as slightly harsh. With a car like this, you wonder why you have to pay more for the other premium German marques.
