THE NICE RENAULT ONDELIOS CAR, it embodies the company's vision of a high-end car. Thankfully, it won't make it to production in this shape, if it ever does, that is. Having said that, the shape does have its plus points - it is inspired from the aviation sector adds Renault, and has as a result helped the concept achieve a commendable Cd value of 0.29. Helping this cause
further are the booŽmerang shaped tail lamps which have been built
into the body work and come ringed with air extractors to control the flow
of air over the wheel arches. As for the front, the aluminiumŽfinish grille flanked by headlamp units also sug- gest flowing motion, says Renault. The head lamps themselves are high-performance LED headlights which are both longer lasting and more efficien wheels that use propeller-like hubs draw the air flow from the sides to prevent turbulence. The wheels are shod with high tech tyres as well - 255/40 Michelin Pilot Sport run a tread pattern designed to minimise deformaŽtion of the contact patch while on the move to help curb rolling resistance.

The tread has efficient, active flow channels, which together with the wide circumfer-ential groove that helps clear water, strengthen the image of a high-end, high-tech tyre, says the comŽpany release. The Ondelios is again a crossover concept, however with the single minded idea of being a long distance cruiser. Ondelios is inspired by moŽtion rather than speed and is a whole new response to the call of the open road," says Patrick Le Quement, Renault's Design Director. It's been designed for people who love to travel, and as a result, it has been designed to be roomy and comfortable for the six occupants it can carry. Each seat which follows a leaf design to better caress its occupants, can be reclined almost completely with the help of motors and gets retractable footrests as well. It's also well equipped and sports individual entertainment system for each passenger among other things. The doors used are of the gullŽwing type, again to ease getting in and out of the vehicle. To keep with the times, the concept is powered by a 2.0Žlitre diesel hybrid powerplant. The 205bhp oil burner works along with two 20kW motors. The system is a mild hybrid, and therefore the motors help give the engine the extra shove when the conditions so desire. The motor mounted on the rear axle drives the rear wheels giving it 4WD capability.
