Rossi didn't win the opening race of the '08 season at floodlit Qatar, a much-lamented fact. So, the first thing to do when MotoGP 08 started loading on the PS3 was to right this wrong, which is exactly what I did. Never mind that I did it in only five laps, despite being unaccustomed with the button-laden joystick. Er, 'easy difficuItyleveland 'arcade' handling mode, that's why. In 'simulation' mode, all I did was highside my way around whatever track I was on. Even Sepang, a track that I love playing, suddenly became a tightrope walk, with every throttle input needing utmost care. Very challenging, and once gotten the hang of. overtaking Stoner at the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca is almost as thrtlling as the real stuff. The graphics are not a very big improvement over earlier editions, but the feel of the bikes definitely is.

Stoners Desmosedici is about as well behaved as a rodeo bull in comers, but is a blur on straights, while Rossi's MI comers much better, but is slower. Very realistic. However, the sound of the bikes leaves a lot to be desired, it's an unexciting flat drone that doesn't fit in when you're powering out of a comer with one wheel in the air. This minor grouse aside, the game also has a challenge mode that involves all the riders and tracks of the 2008 season which means that though the season's over, the fun most definitely is not.
