Past few months in India have been very taxing on the common man. Be it in terms of the price of commodities like vegetables or the price of petrol - the prices of both have been sky rocketing. While other products might seen their prices coming down, it is wise to understand and admit that petrol prices will only go higher and higher in the months to come. So in a time where a liter of petrol costs more than two meals for a common man, we decided to step into the shoes of a typical commuter and live his life for a day. We chose to take the bike which according to ARAI certification is best in terms of fuel economy and hence the choice was quite simple. It had to be the 100cc Bajaj Discover DTS-Si which (the company] claims an overall average of 9030km/ll The plan was to subject myself to the conditions a normal man goes through everyday 7am- I was barely able to open my eyes but work is work a up.
I tried to finish up the daily chores as soon as I could ready to hit the road because sooner the better in terms hour traffic. 9am- I was finally able to get out on the road and what a was. The plan was to ride through the cities heart to the otl of town. The road was already chocked with people on and in every kind of vehicle known to mankind I Trying to move was as tough as winning an Olympic batten relay where e\ wants to get ahead of the other In this kind of traffic no mat powerful your vehicle is, it has to move at near crawling SpE this case, the Discover was responding pretty well. We werE averaging ten km hour but the bike was taking it all withou gear shifts. Despite of being a capacity engine, the Discover has ample torque to weave through the congested city road~ 12pm- After going through maddening traffic, I reach. office through the long way round. A quick break and I wa~ another ride.
I was again out on the road and thankfully thE had lessened. I was able to easily cruise at the speeds b. 40-60km/h at which point, the Discover started impressi no ends. It doesn't feel like a 100cc machine but from a SE bigger I had already travelled around 60km and there were I of fatigue due to the upright and relaxed riding position of th 2pm- Parking these days is turning into a mammoth. increasing population has ultimately resulted into more nun vehicles on the streets and reduction in parking space. In thi~ having a bike is of great help as it takes relatively less space.
