Mercedes-Benz revealed the new E-Class at Detroit. The old W211 has soldiered on since 2002 and this new one intends to take the E to a higher plane. As you will see, a lot of technology and ideas from the S-Class are percolating down to the E, and a lot of them are standard surprisingly. Expect a more expensive, more luxurious car when Mercedes Benz India launches the new E Class in India. We expect the car will be here by the last quarter, with European sales only starting.
On the styling front, the new look is pretty obvious. The pontoon Mercs inspire the flourish on the side, and the new angular twin headlamps, the nifty LED running lights et ai, serve notice to the competition, that the legendary E-Class is refreshed, renewed and ominously, back. The car looks elegant yet muscular compared to the old car and detailed work on the rear fender celebrates the 1953 W120.

Under the grille is a stiffer bodyshell that holds in a fantastic amount of new technology. Adaptive suspension, for instance, is standard. The E promises to feel fluid, and plush normally but subtly firm up the shocks when you need to swerve suddenly or take a sweeper at autobahn speeds. As is usual, the gizmo brigade employs the latest generation of all of the usual technologies, with three brand new additions. The new E will feature a forward looking camera whose job it is to prevent anyone coming towards you from getting dazzled. Adaptive Main Beam Assist. The car will also monitor what you're doing with the controls to see if you're paying attention or not. Cue flashing lights and not-so-subtle audio warnings. Attention Assist. Finally, when all else fails, the car's forward looking radar (two units) will detect, predict a collision and decide what sort of braking will prevent it. And then it will do the whole wake-up sequence. When you hit the brakes, the car will stop quicker than ever because it already knows what to do. Automatic Emergency Braking.
