It may be furious activity within, but it has been a quiet year for Bajaj on the launch front. Amidst the crisis, Rajiv Bajaj's men have done little to counter the drop in sales and Bajaj lost its number two position in the sales charts to Honda and TVS. We wondered what was going on. Apart from releases about narrower dealer invento.iies and another slice of KTM mopped up, there was little that Bajaj Auto appeared" to be doing.
Well, you can stop wondering now. As you would have already read:?3ajaj in.tends to launch six bikes in the next six months, and expects the new bikes to propel sales and put it back in its rightful position and beyond. The first bike on that starting grid is the new XCD 135 DTS-Si.

So, what is it? The XCD 135 DTS-is, according to Bajaj, an all-new motorcycle. It is meant to offer the proposition of a sporty commuter to the buying public. We have said this before, as has Rajiv Bajaj, that commuters have to become more specialised and product differentiation has to be driven by more than fancy new stickers and the addition of more digital gizmos. Welcome, then to the first motorcycle that actually takes that thought to heart. Bajaj has created what is, in effect, a replacement for the Discover
in a physically larger package that is a little more focused on sporty performance. To give you a reference, the XCD 135 DTS-Si, even before you actually ride it, looks like a capable, stylish commuter that is far sportier in design than, say, the Hero Honda Glamour or the Passion.
