The first thing you need to protect . when riding a motorcycle is your head. Most motorcycle-related fatalities occur due to head injuries so it is imperative that you wear a helmet. And a good quality one at that. If you skimp when buying a helmet. you might regret it later.

The basic idea behind a helmet is to avoid a direct impact on your head and to bring your brain to a gradual rather than sudden stop which might cause internal damage. A helmet's main compopents are shell. the impact-absorbing middle lining, usually made of foam, and the inner padding. A good quality helmet is designed to direct the force of an impact away from the rider's head by absorbing it. Which means that it is designed to break in order to expend the energy of the impact. A rock hard helmet will ensure that the rider's head ping-pongs around inside the helmet and causes more harm than good. Another point to note is that even if a helmet looks externally intact after a fall, it might be severely weakened from the inside and it will not
protect the rider in the event of another fall. It is best to replace a helmet even after it has suffered a minor impact.

A helmet should fit snugly and should not move around even if you shake your head. When riding, road undulations and the wind will make an already loose helmet shake which can be massively distracting. Ideally. a helmet should be slightly tighter than snug when new. It will bed in with use giving you the perfect fit. Don't buy a helmet from the many helmet hawkers that line the roads. Such helmets might come with the 'ISI' mark. but we think you know how genuine they are likely to be, right? Always buy a well-known brand from a proper dealer. Today, all good quality helmets come with removable and washable inner padding and also visors that are scratch-proof to a large extent. These are small things but make helmets easier to live with on a daily Ilasis. Don't go for a hel¬met that just looks cool; safety should be your first priority, and as such, go for one that fits and feels right. And anyway, most of the well-known brands have designs that probably look better than your bike!

There is wide range of helmets in the market today and we suggest that you buy the best quality helmet irrespective of cost. While there are half-face helmets available, we recommend good-quality full-face helmets for maximum protection.

Hi,

I have been using a System 6 helmet for 2-3 months and find it a substantial improvement over the System 5. It is lighter, fits better, less wind noise and a superior visor system.

Priced at £325 in the UK for a plain colour I am very pleased with it so far.

I have always found the BMW System helmets better for me as I wear glasses all the time.

I do intend to fit the bluetooth system in due course.

It gets a big thumbs up from me

Best regards,

David
