Fitting any aftermarket filter on a carbureted bike improves performance

An internal combustion engine runs on a combination of fuel and air referred to as the NF ratio or NF mixture. The air passes through the air filter mixing with the fuel supplied by the carburetor and goes into the engine. If any aftermarket air filter is installed which allows better breathing or better suction of air, the percentage of air in the NF mixture increases. In other words, the mixture becomes lean. On a stock bike with optimal tuning, the lean mixture will not help the bike go any faster. Hence, to compensate for more air, retuning the carburetor with a larger jet is essential.
