BMW Motorrad’s novel ethos is to be more edgy and state of the art, much like BMW’s self-propelling side and exemplified by its S1000RR superbike. Not just has the RR turn the best-selling BMW in America, its owners’ average age is only thirty-four years.“A walkaway success” is how Pieter De Waal, VP of BMW Motorrad USA, depicts the S1000RR, particularly conceiving the current depressed market.
“When marketing something nobody demands,” De Waal tells, “you’d more beneficial give them a very beneficial reason to purchase.”So, in its quest to get “younger, more dynamic riders,” the futurist urban F800R is offered to American riders for the 1st time, substituting the automatically similar F800S in BMW’s 2011 lineup. The 800ST stays unchanged. The F800R is basically a stripped edition of the 800ST that made our respect when it beat Honda’s efficient VFR800 Interceptor in a sport-touring shootout.

Key distinctions aside from the 800R’s apparent lack of fairings are a double-sided swingarm substituting the ST’s single-sided arm and asymmetric dual headlights boasting H7 bulbs. The ST’s low-maintenance belt repel is substituted with a chain and sprockets in the same final-repel ratio, while gears four to six are shorter. Its sixth gear matches 5th on the 800GS.
As a naked sporty bike, the F800R is a decathlete of sorts, able to lighter its path by commuter traffic on Monday then tear up the canyons on weekends. A well upright stance yields adapting ergonomics, with the 1-assemble handlebar only a slight forward reach – perfect.
