Gabor Talmacsi may have already lost his 125 title to Mike di Meglio but the tough Hungarian gave himself something of a consolation prize by winning at Sepang, his fourth victory of the year. The success moved him into second overall past Simone Corsi who won a frantic last turn battle for third place. Briton Bradley Smith took second after starting from 13th on the grid.
Talmacsi led from the first lap all the way to the flag, running 5sec ahead of the pack at one point. He finally crossed the line 3-4sec ahead of Smith.

"The championship dream is already gone," said Talmacsi who suffered bad luck earlier in the season. "But this win means a lot, because if I can finish second overall, it will be fantastic." With Talmacsi quickly alone out front, the main interest focused on the battle for third but once Smith had moved into second place and embarked on a vain pursuit of the race winner, the interest switched to Corsi, Sandro Cortese and newly crowned world champion di Meglio fighting over third. Di Meglio was in front heading down the long straight to the final hairpin but had no reply as both Corsi and Cortese came past on the brakes, putting him fifth.
