Hard work paid of for young Ashwin Sundar right at the end of his first ADAC season. After a not-so-impressive season at Formula Masters, which concludŽed a few weeks back, Ashwin had a point or two to prove when he was told to race for the last Polo Cup race in the guest class of the ADAC VW Polo cup.
Three points from the entire Formula Masters season weren't something that would charge anyŽone before an important race but Sundar had another source of inspiration. "Last time I particiŽpated in the Polo race as guest driver some months back! set the fastestlap," says Sundar. Surely, enough to restore the Chennai lad's confidence.
After qualifying 18 out of 31 participants and at the top in the guest class, Sundar was confident of finishing among top ten.

"I was one-see off pace but I knew it so easily could have been a top 10 qualification," says Sundar.
With nothing to lose Ashwin gets down to the final race of his ADAC season. "I had a good start as I moved from 18 to 16 within the first corner and things were looking brighter. I made some good moves and was running 14 in combined class and first in the guest class." But, when he tried to pass the guy in 13th from the outside of turn one his car's four wheels went off-track, which is not legal in the Polo race. Due to which he suffered a drive-through penŽalty. Despite the penalty some aggressive driving saw him finish 16th combined and third in the guest class. Indeed, a performance worth applauding.
