Seat Sport's Yvan Muller took the win at Imola ahead of team mate Rickard Rydell after overtaking him into the first corner. After that, the two SEATs remained in formation for the duration of the race. However, Rydell had to stave off the attentions of the Chevrolets of Robert Huff and Alain Menu. Not for long though, as the man on the move, lames Thompson, came through to take his Honda Accord into third place.

In race two, Thompson started from sixth on the grid and continued his form to win the race, Honda's first-ever WTCC victory and his fourth. lorg Muller was initially leading the pack with Nicola Larini in tow, but the whole field was bunched up behind the safety car when Felix Porteiro and Gabriele Tarquini collided. After the safety car exited, it wasn't too long before Thompson spot. Championship leader Yvan Muller finished fifth.
