Fernando Alonso made it two in a row in the land of the rising sun, sending out a clear signal that his sun is far from setting. Again, title contenders Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton were out of the reckoning due to critical mistakes, coming into contact and getting slapped with drive-through penalties. Kimi Raikkonen was off to a flyer and towards the end, he was harrowing Robert Kubica for second position, the duo locked in a superb battle.

But worn-out tyres meant Raikkonen couldn't push his car too much and Kubica finished second, and he still has an outside chance for the driver's title. Alonso though was unaffected by all the chaos and drove like a champion to take the chequered flag first. while Massa and Hamilton finished seventh and twelfth respectively.
