I own a Maruti Alto 2006 MPFI. I wish to know whether after five tyre (wheel) rotations, wheel alignments and balancing are compulsory. My local mechanic advised me to push start the car in 2nd gear if the battery gets discharged only in an emergency. Is is safe to do so?

Rotation of the wheels is recommended - it evens the wear on all your wheels - and the schedule is in your owner's manual. However, wheel alignment and balancing are solutions to problems - if your vehicle pulls right or Ie It, or you sense a wobble in the steering wheel at certain speeds, then you do need to get the wheels balanced and aligned. It's also sale to jump start your vehicle in second gear but just not too often.
