Kawasaki's supersport contender for 2009 goes on a diet and offers better midrange power to take on the reigning champion of the segment, Honda's CBR600RR. The ZX-6R's leaner physique courtesy a major reduction in weight and improved power delivery offers more precise control, lighter handling and better acceleration. The ZX-6R gets ZX-10R type styling with twin fox-eye head lamps integrated in a new sharper fairing. The bike drops its underseat exhaust for a huge sideexit one.

Kawasaki engineers have also worked on the engine, tweaking the 599CC motor for better midrange punch. New parts like a lighter cam, magnesium engine covers', narrower transmission gears, etc. all contribute towards shaving the pounds off. New double bore velocity stacks feature inlets at two different heights, increasing performance in both, mid and high rpm ranges. A new exhaust collector layout contributes to improved low and midrange performance while maintaining high rpm performance.

There have been massive changes in the frame, swingarm, subframe and suspension, all of which have led to a massive weight shedding to the"tune of almost ten kilos.

The suspension of the bike too gets updated with brand new Showa forks up front. Similar in design to that of the ZX-lOR, the new instrument panel gives at-a-glance information to the rider. The 2008 ZX-6R suffered from heavy weight and a poor midrange, both of which seem to have been sorted out for this new model.

The ZX-10R receives no technical mechanical changes other than some new colours black, white and head turning green.
