Toe-in describes a shorter distance between the anterior parts of the front wheels in comparison to the posterior ends of the same set of wheels (as in toes closer to each other than the heels). Most cars are designed with toe-in which counters forces from the road against a moving car. Such forces work against the car's moving direction thereby pushing back the wheels. The toe-in settings adjust for keeping the front wheels parallel when the car moves.
