with Ducati has been very special considering all his championship victories in the World Superbike championship have been aboard the Italian marque. At the Magny-Cours circuit in France, Bayliss cemented his third championship victory in race one itself when he followed the front runners consistently in order to avoid any mishaps. He started with third place on the grid on Sunday and moved into second where he continued for most of the race distance. However, he had to exchange places with Nieto towards the end and had to settle for the third place on the podium as arch rival Noriyuki Haga took the top step.

Race two saw Bayliss in a comfortable points lead over the competition..to take home the championship and hence the pressure was virtually nonexistent. This allowed the Australian to push his 1098 to the limits and get the better of Haga to take victory in the race. At the end of the race Troy Bayliss was crowned the World Champion with a total of 410 points against his name. The victory is also a maiden win for the I098 factory machine in its d.tb.ut season it'self repeating the feat that was seen with the Ducati 916 in 1994, 9996 in 1998 and 999 in 2003. With the championship under his belt, Troy Bayliss will now retire from the World Superblke championship to make way for a new rider for the season. .
